A male 23-year-old Coast Guard member, R.T., has been accused of sexually assaulting a female member of the Coast Guard in early 2011. Testimony in the court martial began recently and included statements from the alleged victim. The woman testified that she and a female co-worker were celebrating the New Year in a bar a few days after the holiday since they were both on duty on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. She says that R.T. was at the bar as well and that he attacked her in the bar's bathroom and then two additional times that evening. The second and third alleged sexual assaults were said to have occurred when the woman was walking from the bar to her apartment and then inside her apartment. Are you a military service member who has been charged with a sexual offense? A seasoned military defense attorney may be able to fight the serious charges you are facing.
The defendant asserts that there was no assault and that is was a consensual encounter. The two knew each other from Coast Guard survival school and he recognized her at the bar that night. He explained that he saw her fall off her bar stool while she had been drinking and that he helped her to the bathroom. T.R. walked the woman home to her apartment with her friends and then says the two were having consensual sex at her home when the two co-workers walked in on them. The woman admitted to drinking alcohol and having little recollection of the incident. R.T. has been charged with abusive sexual contact and aggravated sexual assault.
