Police were contacted by a convenience store clerk who reported that two cases of beer were stolen by a young male around 3:00 am recently. Officers were able to get a description of the car that the suspected thief drove off in and began searching for it. A vehicle matching the description was spotted some time after the incident and was promptly pulled over by two officers in a cruiser. The officer approaching the vehicle's driver reported that the young man appeared nervous. He also stated there was a strong odor of alcohol. Shortly after contact was made with the driver of the car it was discovered that there were three passengers, one of which matched the description of the young male that had stolen the cases of beer. The officer also spotted what looked to be the barrel of a shotgun on the back seat and immediately drew his weapon and ordered all of the individuals out of the car. A search of the vehicle revealed a case of beer, a loaded 12 gauge shotgun that had been reported stolen and drug paraphernalia. The driver had several shotgun shells in his pocket and was determined to be driving under the influence and with a revoked driver's license. The four juveniles, two male and two female aged 17, 16 and 15, were taken into custody and later released to family. The investigation into the incident is ongoing but the driver of the vehicle has been charged with DUI and DUID (driving under the influence of drugs) and all four of the individuals have been charged with theft by receiving (in regard to the shotgun) and possession of drug paraphernalia.
