51-year-old K.A. was charged with several criminal offenses relating to allegations that he sexually abused a 14-year-old female student. The Los Angeles Unified School District physical education teacher pled not guilty to the charges and will be facing another court date in September. The charges stem from allegations that he had a sexual relationship with a student in 2005. When confronted by police earlier in July K.A. attempted to evade officers and led them on a high speed chase. The chase came to an abrupt end when he crashed into a tree and was taken into custody. Speak with a criminal defense attorney right away if you have been charged with a sex crime or other criminal offense.
K.A. has been charged with six felony sexual assault offenses. He pled not guilty to all charges which include three counts of committing a lewd act on a child, one count of sexual penetration by a foreign object and two counts of oral copulation of a person under 16 years of age. He is also charged with felony evading an officer.
Penalties for Sex Crimes
Sex crimes include a number of offenses which involve unwelcomed sexual contact, lewd behavior and/or illegal sexual activity with a minor or child. Examples of sex crimes include soliciting a minor online, possession of child pornography, lewd conduct in a public location, rape, sex with a minor, sexual assault, sexual abuse, statutory rape, indecent exposure and others. Prosecutors aggressively pursue sex offense cases and seek the highest penalties possible. Punishment for an alleged sex crime if a conviction is obtained can include years of imprisonment, thousands in fines and the possibility of mandatory registration as a sex offender.
