Drug Deal Turns Fatal For Woman
One of two men accused of slaying the woman they had arranged to sell drugs to has been convicted, facing up to life without possibility for parole, the Los Angeles Times reports.
As the prosecution related to the court, the incident allegedly occurred on March 27, 2010. The 19-year old defendant and his partner had agreed to meet with a 38-year old woman in Westminster to make an exchange of illegal narcotics. The deal was planned to go down in a parking lot at Russell C. Paris Park. The woman arrived with her boyfriend at 11:30 p.m., and met with the two dealers. Unbeknownst to her, however, the young men had no intention of selling her any drugs.
While her boyfriend waited in the car, she got out and went over to the Honda Civic in which the two defendants were sitting. When she showed them the money, they snatched it from her and attempted to flee the scene. The woman's purse was caught in the door of the Honda, entangling her with the vehicle as it sped away. She was dragged along for the ground for nearly a mile as the defendants fled her boyfriend, who gave chase in his car. After discharging several shots from a firearm at the boyfriend's vehicle, the suspects were eventually stopped by an Orange County sheriff's deputy and arrested. The 38-year old woman died from her injuries at a hospital shortly thereafter.
The defendant was convicted on Wednesday, June 8th of first-degree murder during a robbery, as well as attempted murder and discharging a firearm. His partner is scheduled for trial in October.
