A man wanted by authorities in Steele County was recently taken into custody by police in Minneapolis. S.W., 30 years old, was originally charged with felony drug possession and sales charges in May. He and another man were arrested after allegedly selling narcotics to a South Central Drug Investigation Unit informant. He was subsequently released on $100,000 bail after his arraignment later that month. S.W. was scheduled to appear in court on his charges in mid September but he did not appear. A warrant for his arrest was issued thereafter. Authorities and recovery agents used an informant and the GPS on S.W.'s cell phone to track him down to the Minneapolis area. Agents began searching the city for S.W. but were not able to get a break regarding his actual location there until about a week later. A tip came in stating that S.W. was trying to get cash for his car so he could get to Chicago. The tipster also said that S.W. was seen in possession of a firearm. Police reported to a location near Fremont Avenue North and found S.W. among a group of people. The group scattered when the officers arrived. A pursuit ensued for about 10 blocks until S.W. was eventually apprehended and taken into custody. No gun was found in his possession but one of four other individuals from the group who were taken into custody did have a handgun. Recovery agents took custody of S.W. from Minneapolis police and transported him to Steele County for a court appearance. Bail was set for $300,000 but it wasn't reported whether or not he posted bail and was released. He faces the possibility of many years behind bars if he is convicted for the drug offense allegations and other charges against him. Have you been charged with a serious drug crime?
