A 43-year-old Minneapolis man is facing serious felony charges after being accused of strangling his ex-girlfriend in her apartment. The incident happened at the woman's St. Louis Park home. She reported to police that the man, C.D., showed up outside her apartment and then began chasing her inside. She ran to the bedroom and he followed, grabbed her and threw her to the bed. C.D. allegedly held her face down on the bed and kneeled on her back to prevent her from getting away. He covered her mouth and was pulling back her head. She continued to struggle and said that she was afraid she would lose consciousness from a lack of oxygen or that he would break her neck. She began to pass out and had stopped resisting at which point he let her go. She crawled to a patio door and was helped out by her neighbors. Neighbors had called police earlier after hearing a disturbance in the apartment building's courtyard. One caller said C.D. was seen hitting the woman several times. Authorities arrived and took C.D. into custody. He has been charged with felony domestic assault by strangulation. If convicted he could be sentenced to three years in prison.
