Two Police Officers Sentenced for Shooting and Burning Man

According to information on the FBI web site, at the end of last month, one former New Orleans police officer and a current officer were both sentenced for the shooting death and burning of a civilian man,. The current New Orleans police officer was sentenced for the subsequent burning of the body and obstruction of justice.
The former officer was sentenced to 25 years, nine months in prison for his involvement in the illegal shooting which occurred in 2005 and was also ordered to pay $7,642 to the family for funeral expenses. The current officer was sentenced to 17 years in prison and $6,000 in restitution for burning the body .
Statement from U.S. Attorney
U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana stated that the sentences send a powerful message that no one is above the law. He also stated that they would do everything in their power to make certain that their police do not abuse the power they have.
