Earlier this month, a Houston father was charged in the murder of a drunk driver who killed his two sons. The two boys, aged 12 and 11, were helping their father push his stalled pickup truck along the rural road close to their home. The group had just neared their house when the 20 year-old driver crashed into them, killing one of the boys at the scene. The other boy died of his wounds later at a hospital. The drunk driver was found dead at the scene of a gunshot to the head. Witnesses placed the Houston father near the driver's vehicle at the time he was shot. The father was indicted on murder charges with bail set at $450,000. His wife, daughter, and another infant son were in the pickup truck at the time of the accident; none of them were injured.
Investigators have not found the weapon which was used to kill the driver. Ammunition that could have been used in the crime was, however, found in the defendant's home. DNA tests of biological material are being done. Apparently neighbors of the implicated man reported hearing gunshots right after the accident occurred, which took place 50 yards from the man's home. It is theorized by prosecutors that he left the crash scene, went to his home, retrieved a weapon and killed the driver of the vehicle before law enforcement arrived at the scene.
