Earlier this week, a methamphetamine operation was discovered by local authorities in an affluent neighborhood in Lake Nona which is located in Orange County, Florida. An upscale home in the area contained a million dollar methamphetamine enterprise. The home came under surveillance and investigation after authorities received a tip. When one of the occupants of the residence left it, he was pulled over by investigators who found $120,000 worth of methamphetamine in his truck. After obtaining a warrant to search the home, they found another 80 pounds of the drug hidden inside which is estimated to be worth about $1 million. Two men were arrested and charged in the drug bust. They remain in federal custody without bail.
Currently it is unknown where the meth came from but the investigation was conducted by a federal agency. Drug crimes in Florida may be investigated and prosecuted by both state and federal agencies. They can involve drug crimes ranging from possession to sales, distribution, manufacturing, cultivation, importation, and trafficking of substances such as methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, Ecstasy, crack, PCP, opiates, and more. They can also involve the unauthorized possession and distribution of prescription medicines. Federal drug crime convictions will fall under federal sentencing guidelines which look at the nature of the offense combined with the conviction history of the defendant.
