Argument Started by Facebook Posts Ends in Domestic Battery Charges

M.G. of Miami Beach was recently arrested and charged with felony domestic battery. The 58-year-old man was taken into custody after his fiancée called police about the alleged incident. Reports state that his fiancée had just arrived home from a trip to Texas when she was confronted by M.G. concerning some posts on her Facebook page. A description of the posts that allegedly upset him was not available but his fiancée told police that he became increasingly upset about the matter until he physically assaulted her. She says he struck her with his open hand and then pushed her to the ground. Officers found M.G. and reported that he had numerous injuries to his face including cuts around his nose and mouth as well as a black eye. Reports do not state the extent of his fiancée's alleged injuries. The man's attorney is working to get the matter cleared up and stated, "It was regrettable that this was not a complete police investigation. Unfortunately, often, whoever calls 911 becomes the automatic victim." Consult with a knowledgeable criminal defense lawyer if you have been accused of domestic violence or other assault offense after an alleged argument with a significant other or other individual.

Charged with domestic violence in the Miami-Dade area?

While there are times when domestic violence charges are warranted because of an assault between members of a family or household, there are other times when accusations of violence are exaggerated or fabricated out of emotional stress or spite. Domestic violence charges can result in serious penalties including jail or prison time, expensive fines, probation, restraining orders and other penalties and legal actions. Someone accused of physically or verbally assaulting their spouse, significant other, ex-spouse, child, parent, sibling, roommate or other such individual will be held without the option to post bail until they are seen in court for their initial hearing. Make sure you have someone on your side working to get the truth of the incident known.
