A former police sergeant for the Opa Locka, Florida police force has been arrested and charged with the kidnapping of a man who was intent on filing a police brutality charge against him. The former sergeant, who has been called "Florida's Dirtiest Cop", is being held without bond in a Miami-Dade jail after turning himself in to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. He is accused of punching the victim during a domestic violence call while he was still active with the police department. Later, when the victim wished to file a charge of police brutality against him, the former policeman handcuffed the victim and held him against his will. The victim was never allowed to file a complaint against the police officer.
In the arrest, the Opa Locka policeman is charged with felony kidnapping, misdemeanor battery, and tampering with a witness. He was discharged from the Opa Locka police department back in 2012. An investigation into the policeman's past revealed that he had been subject to investigations into his behavior 40 times; 16 of the investigations pertained to battery or other forms of violence with accusations including car theft, driving on a suspended license, possession of counterfeit money, cocaine, and crack pipes, providing false statements to police, and making false police reports as a cop. The Sarasota Herald-Tribune reported in an investigative story in 2011 that evidence showed that this particular cop had engaged in battery, perjury, stealing city resources, misconduct as a police officer, breach of duty, and the use of excessive force.
