We all depend on our driver's licenses and, in fact, most of us take them granted. Our license to drive allows us to get to work, school, shopping, the gym, the doctor's office, to run errands, and to go to many other functions that we engage in. That is why it is so important to retain our driving privileges. For those who lose their licenses, whether through a suspension, revocation, cancellation, or disqualification, driving without a valid license in the state of Florida can become a criminal offense. Such an offense can range from a moving violation to a serious felony, depending on the circumstances involved. Driver's license violations can also affect insurance rates.
If you knowingly get behind the wheel of your car when your license has been taken away, you will generally face a criminal misdemeanor charge. If you are a two-time repeat offender of this offense, charges can be elevated to a felony. In a first-offense violation, you will face the prospect of a jail sentence of up to 60 days and a fine of up to $500. Conviction of a second violation will result in similar penalties. A third conviction will generally be charged as a felony, punishable by up to five years in prison and fines of up to $5,000. Other offenses regarding driver's licenses in Florida include lending your license to someone else, using another person's license in order to drive, or obtaining multiple licenses with different names.
