A 31-year-old woman was taken into custody recently after allegedly attempting to flee police. The woman, M.D., was traveling on West Oakland Park Boulevard with her boyfriend in the front passenger seat. Police saw her vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Reports do not state why the officers decided to pull her over (no probable cause was described). After pulling the woman over police ran her name and discovered that she had felony warrants out for her arrest. The warrants stemmed from narcotics charges, resisting arrest, battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence and escape. The officer asked M.D. to step out of the car and she initially complied. Her boyfriend also exited the vehicle and then stayed where he was directed according to the other officer on the scene. M.D., however, got back into her car against the officer's directions and started driving away. The officer was holding on to her arm at the time and he fell to the ground as she drove off. He was not injured and was able to pursue the woman as she reportedly sped off from the location of the traffic stop. The officer followed M.D. in his cruiser as she weaved in and out of traffic and eventually ran a red light at an intersection. She crashed into an SUV and her vehicle was disabled. The driver of the SUV suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital. M.D. was not injured in the collision and was immediately arrested. She was jailed and charged with additional offenses. Her boyfriend was taken to the police station for questioning but is being considered a witness and is not being charged with any offense.
