If you have been charged with a drug crime, you need to get assistance from a criminal defense attorney who is knowledgeable in drug crime laws. Penalties for drug crimes in Florida can be extremely harsh and can have a devastating effect on a person's life. Stiffer penalties are now in place for marijuana and strong penalties already exist for many other drugs
Florida Drug Penalties
According to the Florida statutes, following are some specific penalties relating to just one type of drug, cocaine.
Anyone who knowingly purchases, sells, manufactures, delivers or brings into the state of Florida, or who knowingly is in possession of 28 grams or more of cocaine or any mixture that contains cocaine, (but less than 150 kilograms) is committing a first degree felony considered to be "trafficking." The penalty for this offense is as follows:
For 28 grams or more of cocaine, but less than 200, a person will be sentenced to a mandatory minimum of three years imprisonment and ordered to pay a fine of $50,000. If a person has a previous conviction for a drug related crime, the penalties become much harsher with much longer terms of imprisonment and fines.
