Celebrity Car Heist Suspect Has Attempted Murder Added To Charges
A judge ruled that a now-18-year old from San Francisco charged with six felonies, including the theft of an expensive luxury car and the attempted shooting of two people, shall be required to stand trial as an adult. The boy was allegedly tricked by one of the targets into revealing the location of the stolen car to police.
According to court documents filed by law enforcement officials, the stolen automobile was a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder belonging to star chef Guy Fieri. The vehicle, valued at more than $200,000, was being stored in a car dealership on Van Ness Avenue, where it was undergoing repairs.
Investigators claim that in March 2011 the teenage suspect climbed onto the roof of the establishment, rappelled down using a rope, and stole the vehicle from inside, possibly with the help of an accomplice. A janitor was seen in surveillance footage working during the theft, and police say the man never reported anything strange to law enforcement, despite rope, climbing tools, and bolt cutters being left at the scene.
Bay Area Teen Commits Hit-And-Run Out Of Jealousy, Police Say
The boy was suspected to have been involved in the heist by police, but the investigation was stalling until an attempted drive-by shooting of two teens led them back to the suspect. Authorities allege that the defendant, angry at a romantic rebuff, attempted to murder an 18-year old girl and her boyfriend, 19, outside the girl's home in Mill Valley. The victims did not see their attacker's face, but the defendant was later shown to have purchased the motorcycle and clothes matching the description of the assailant just days before the incident took place.
Court documents indicate that investigators were able to enlist the help of the female victim to dupe the defendant into revealing the location of the stolen Lamborghini. Believing that she wished to go on a date with him, the suspect allegedly led police to a storage locker where the car was being hidden. Also inside the locker, prosecutors claim, were the black clothes and motorcycle used by the suspect in the murder attempt.
