Washington State Men Sentenced in Gun Thefts

Three men were sentenced this month in Superior Court after pleading guilty in a burglary of 41 guns from a Sportco store. The men broke into the store on December 17, 2011 in the early morning hours and smashed open display cases where the guns were kept. They stole 39 guns and two rifles before making their getaway. One of the men pleaded guilty to burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, trafficking in stolen property, and conspiracy to commit trafficking in stolen property. He was sentenced to nine years in prison. The second man was sentenced to one year in jail after pleading guilty to trafficking in stolen property as well as conspiracy. The third man was sentenced to a year and a day in prison after pleading to one count of possession of a stolen gun. A fourth man was also charged in the incident whose trial occurred later; he was charged with 45 felonies.
Some of the weapons that were stolen were used in a robbery according to law enforcement authorities. Others were alleged to have been sold or traded.
Burglary in the first degree in Washington is a Class A felony and in the second degree is a Class B felony. Felonies carry penalties of a year or more of incarceration along with fines.
