Houston police officers recently arrested a Rio Hondo officer on suspicion of burglary. The arrest stems from the late September burglary of a Houston home. A retired U.S. Marshall, G.D., had been performing construction work for the family that owned the burgled home and was the first to call authorities. The family was not at the home at the time of the burglary but G.D. arrived to work on the property to find that a gate to the home had been left open. He went inside and discovered that some tools had been stolen. He inspected the rest of the home and discovered a pager on the floor. The pager turned out to belong to 26-year-old E.Y., an officer with the Rio Hondo Police Department. The owners of the house were notified and soon discovered that the officer had left a message on their answering machine at about 2:30 in the morning saying that he had been patrolling in the area, observed the open gate and went in to investigate. E.Y. was confronted by his superiors and sheriff's deputies and said he arrested the man who had burglarized the home and took the missing tools. That man, M.M., had indeed been arrested but told authorities that it was E.Y.'s plan once he was questioned by investigators. E.Y. was accused of planning the burglary and coming to M.M. to help him do it. The officer allegedly used his patrol car to transport himself and M.M. to the property and the missing tools. He had dropped his pager at the house and is accused of trying to cover his tracks with the phone call to the home owner. The tools were returned to G.D., E.Y. resigned from the department and was taken into custody in Houston. Have you been charged with burglary or other theft offense?
