A man was shot and killed in the parking lot of a bowling alley just off of Interstate 285 last Monday, according to a report from CBS Atlanta. The victim, a 31-year old man named John Elliot Williams, called 911 and told police that he had been shot in a robbery attempt. He died shortly after. The incident occurred at approximately 7:45 pm, police said. Thanks to their investigative work, the police identified the shooter as Rodney M. Powell, and issued a warrant for his arrest.
New Evidence Comes to Light
But after being questioned by police, Rodney Powell told the investigators that he shot Williams in self-defense. According to his story to the police, Powell had driven to the parking lot to meet Williams and purchase several laptop computers from him. Williams, who was accompanied by a second man, got into the car with Powell and tried to rob him of the money he had brought. He also had a gun, Powell alleges. In response to this robbery attempt, Powell shot Williams in self-defense.
Evidence found on the scene corroborates Powel's testimony, say police. They found a gun in the parking lot, which is presumed to have belonged to Williams. Law enforcement officers are now searching for the second man, whom they have identified as Antwon Milton, who was reportedly driving a silver Mitsubishi Eclipse. Warrants have been issued for his arrest, charging Milton with felony murder and attempted armed robbery. Milton was released from police custody in DeKalb County on a $50,000 bond on assault and robbery charges in November.
