Georgia License Suspensions and Revocations

In the state of Georgia, you can lose your driving privileges in three ways. Your license application can be canceled by the Department of Driver Services if you fail to provide correct information or if you are found to be ineligible to drive. An example of this would be failing to pass a standard eye test. Your license can be suspended for a temporary time period, usually due to traffic offenses. Once the suspension period has elapsed, you can get your license restored through satisfying all of the necessary requirements. Finally, a license revocation terminates your license for whatever time period has been decided through formal action of the Department of Driver Services. This is a more serious action than a suspension. To reinstate your license, you will be required to pay certain fees.
License suspensions follow convictions for such traffic offenses as driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, hit and run, leaving the scene of an accident, using a vehicle to commit a felony, using fraudulent or fictitious information to get a license, killing someone through the use of a vehicle, refusing to take a chemical test when stopped on suspicion of a DUI, driving without insurance, driving with a license that has already been suspended or revoked (resulting in a further suspension), failing to appear or respond to a traffic ticket, or accumulating 15 points on your driving record within 24 months. Your license can also be suspended if you are convicted of drug crimes, such as possession, distribution, transfer, or manufacture of controlled substances.
