In Ohio, driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs is against the law. Driving under the influence (DUI) is also sometimes referred to as operating a vehicle while impaired (OVI), the terms are used interchangeably and mean the same thing. It is against the law in all 50 states to operate a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08% or greater. If you are under 21, that number goes down to just 0.02% in Ohio.
If you have been arrested for DUI/OVI in Ohio, you are probably concerned about the future of your driving privileges, whether or not you will go to jail, how much money you will have to pay in fines and how a criminal conviction will affect your life. Just because you were arrested for DUI, does not have to mean that you will receive an automatic conviction. If you leave your case alone and allow the courts to handle it, by all means, you are facing a DUI conviction, however, if you hire an experienced criminal defense attorney to represent you, the chances of getting the charges against you reduced or dropped greatly increase. Your life and your future are important, that is why you owe it to yourself to hire legal representation, so you can ensure that your rights are vehemently protected.
If you are convicted of DUI in Ohio, you will minimally have a misdemeanor charge on your permanent criminal record. In addition, you will lose your driver’s license for at least six months, you will have to serve at least three days in jail, pay up to $1100 in fines, and you may be required to install an ignition interlock device (IID). On top of everything, your auto insurance rates will increase substantially.
