A defamation of character lawsuit was filed in March of this year by a law firm alleging that a false review of the firm was posted online. The defendants in the suit are a woman A.W., who was a former paralegal at the firm and a man who she lives with who bears the same last name, Mr. J.W.
The fraudulent posting occurred in November of last year and was accessible through a Google search. The firm claims that hundreds of thousands of dollars of lost business may have occurred due to the posting having been there for months for potential clients to see.
The firm is seeking over a million dollars in damages. Defamation of character, common-law fraud and conspiracy are the charges being brought against the former paralegal and the man she lives with. The firm claims the two are married and they live together.
The False Review
The plaintiff alleges that the defendants posed as former clients and gave a derogatory review of the company and posted it online. The review was traced to an email address and Facebook page of Mr. J. W. The review of the firm was removed but can still be seen as a cached version. The false review was discovered in March when the owner did a Google search on his firm's name and the review came up. The paralegal who was hired worked less than a month for the firm and was fired for insubordination.
