Violent Crime Decreases by 7% in New Jersey

According to ABCLocal.com - instances of violent crimes are down for the sixth year in a row in the Garden State.  The Attorney General, Anne Milgram, reports that overall crime has decreased by 4% in the state, compared to 2007.

There was a 7% drop in violent crime throughout the state, which is a decrease from last year.  Other categories of crime also decreased including domestic violence, hate crimes and theft crimes.

The Attorney General also reports that while instances of violent crimes were down, guns were used in approximately 68% of all murders committed in the state.  ABCLocal.com states that, "drug and gang related crimes account for 14 percent of all murders - a 3 percent increase over a year earlier."

Milgram has disclosed to the public that the state will continue to launch campaigns to crack down on all types of crimes, especially violent crime, so that statistics remain low.
