Tennessee Teacher Charged with Statutory Rape

Recently on WSMV.com - A Portland, Tennessee high school teacher has been charged with
statutory rape by an authority figure.
Charges have been brought against female teacher, Sandy Binkley, who is alleged to have had intercourse with a 17 year old boy/student. At the time of the incident, Binkley was 35 years of age. The incident is believed to have happened in March of 2008, prior to Spring Break, during normal school hours.
At this time, prosecutors are thoroughly investigating the case. However, state District Attorney, Ray Whitley, said that it is too early to determine if the incident occurred once or happened on a continual basis.
Binkley has been charged with a
sex crime and may face jail time, fines, and mandatory sex offender registration if she is convicted.
