Murder Trial Opens Against Ex-FBI Agent in Miami

Just in from the Associated Press - Former FBI Agent, John Connolly, is being charged with murder in Miami.  As an FBI Agent, Connolly had a corrupt career and often protected mobsters in Boston and engaged in illegal activity, such as passing along information that led to the killing of a gambling executive in 1982.

Connolly is being charged with the murder of John Callahan, even though a member of the notorious Winter Hill Gang literally pulled the trigger.  However, prosecutors are saying that Connolly was equally responsible for the death because he gave sensitive information to the mob to assist with the crime.

"He gave sensitive information to gangsters, who used that information to protect themselves. And (they) used that information to kill people. One of those people was John Callahan," said prosecutor, Fred Wyshak.

If convicted of first-degree murder, the 68 year old Connolly would face life in prison.  The trial is expected to last approximately 2 months.  John Connolly is already serving a 10 year sentence for a 2002 racketeering conviction.
