In this tragic accident, the teen that was driving admitted that his texting while driving caused the hit and run accident. Last year, a thirty-seven-year-old father of three who was also taking care of his parents in his home was struck by a Honda and the driver left the scene. By the time emergency help arrived, the father was pronounced dead from extensive bodily injuries. Police began a search for the vehicle that was missing a right hand mirror and broken headlight after the accident.
The nineteen-year-old driver responsible for the accident turned himself in four days later. He admitted that he was driving at about 45 miles an hour and was texting while driving. He also admitted that he took his car to a mechanic to get the car repaired shortly after the accident. The teen was charged with hit and run second degree manslaughter and a failure to perform the duties of a driver after a crash, two counts of driving with a suspended license and tampering with evidence. He was being held without bail.
