Last October, an Ohio man, M. C., ended up killing another man after spending an evening going from bar to bar to have a good time with his friends. The convicted man is 22 years old and was sentenced to 6 ½ years in an Ohio prison by a Franklin County judge after pleading guilty. He was charged with aggravated vehicular homicide for which he received a 6-year sentence and driving while under the influence for which he received a 6-month sentence. He could have received the maximum sentence for his conviction which is 8 ½ years. The judge also revoked his driver's license for life.
After a night of heaving drinking, M.C. caused the fatal crash traveling the wrong way on Interstate 670 into oncoming traffic. The man who died was a local photographer and artist. M.C. posted an online video confession admitting his guilt. According to media reports, he drank so much alcohol the night of the crash that he apparently blacked out and had no recall of the event. He was injured in the accident sustaining broken ribs and a fractured skill and later told police investigators that he had a drinking problem. Aggravated vehicular homicide in Ohio includes the killing of an unborn fetus. It is defined as recklessly or negligently killing another while operating a motor vehicle.
