“Innocent Images” Program Protects Kids from Sexual Exploitation

A national program was started up that is FBI intelligence driven involving a number of agencies for the purpose of combating child pornography and sexual exploitation over the internet and via the use of computers. It includes a task force that is international in scope representing over forty countries in order to address the problem on a global level. The organization was started in 1996 and has grown tremendously since its inception.
A Few Impressive Statistics
Following are a few statistics which reflect the effectiveness of the program. Between the fiscal years 1996 and 2009:
- There has been a 2,435% increase in cases opened (113 to 2,865)
- There has been a 3,421% increase in arrests, locates and summons (68 to 2,326)
Additionally, there have been almost 26,000 cases opened, over 14,500 arrests, locates and summons and over 9,000 convictions/pretrial diversions between 1996 and 2009.
