One researcher claims that he can forecast the time and location of crimes using the same mathematical formula that seismologists use for the prediction of aftershock distribution resulting from earthquakes.

The LAPD has forged ties with the UCLA research team and is planning on implementing a large scale experiment to see if predictive policing tools will actually work and produce results. They envision automated and detailed crime forecasts tailored to specific police station areas and these would be forwarded to area commanders who would then make decisions based upon the reports as to where to deploy officers that are out in the field.
