Those who have been convicted of certain sex crimes after July 1, 1956 in Nevada are required to register as sex offenders with their local law enforcement agency. How long the individual will be required to register is set by a tier system. Those in Tier I must register for 15 years, Tier II must register for 25 years, and Tier III must register for life. In some cases, the individual has the right to petition the court to be relieved of the duty to register. This applies to Tier I if the person has registered continuously for 10 consecutive years, has not been convicted of any new felony or sex crime, and has completed any parole, probation, or supervised release and a sex offender treatment program approved by the court.
Crimes which require sex offender registration in Nevada include sexual abuse or exploitation of a child, drugging another for the purpose of committing a sex crime, indecent exposure, incest, lewdness with a child, battery for the purpose of committing sexual assault, child pornography, solicitation of a minor, statutory rape, sexual assault, open or gross lewdness, luring a child or mentally ill person with the intent to transport them away from their home, and other specific sexually motivated offenses. Those required to register as sex offenders must do so within 48 hours of residing or maintaining a presence within a county or city.
