A deputy with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department was charged with a total of 17 felony counts in a case dealing with an alleged sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl. The deputy, J.R., 43 years old, has been accused of having a sexual relationship with the young teenager for several months earlier this year. The charges include contact with a minor for sexual offense, possession of matter showing a minor engaging in sexual conduct, lewd acts on a child, oral copulation of a person under 16 and sexual penetration by a foreign object. The girl was reportedly a member of a family that the deputy knew socially as opposed to professional. J.R. is accused of having a relationship with the teen which started in March and included several instances where he allegedly picked the girl up in his patrol car. He would then drive her to a secluded area where the two would supposedly engage in sexual acts. Prosecutors also allege that J.R. instructed the teen to tell investigators that the pictures she sent him were mistakenly sent to him and were actually meant for the deputy's 14-year-old son. The deputy was relieved of duty without pay while legal actions continue against him. He was taken into custody and is being held in lieu of $605,000 bond. He has pled "not guilty" to all charges against him. He faces the possibility of 10 years or more in prison if he is convicted of all the serious felony charges against him.
