Man Receives Life After Violent 1988 Criminal Spree
A hearing for a potential parole has been set for a Philadelphia man carrying a life sentence after a series of violent crimes committed in 1988.
The man was only 24 when he arrived in Sacramento in 1988 to visit with several of his relatives. Originally a resident of Philadelphia, the man had previously been paroled for a crime before committing the spree that would land him in California prison.
The criminal fling began on November 21st, when the man assaulted a 41-year old Sacramento woman, who got escaped with several moderate injuries. Later that day, he stopped a 13-year old girl walking home from school, kidnapping her while threatening her with a knife. He then escorted the girl to a secluded location near Highway 50 and Bradshaw Road, where she was robbed and raped by the offender. He ended the vicious spree a week later when he kidnapped another victim, this time a 65-year old woman from Carmichael, whom he forced at knifepoint into her car. She was coerced into writing him a check before leaping from the moving vehicle to safety, sustaining minor wounds from the escape.
For this series of violent acts, the man was eventually sentenced to 28-years in prison, which was later increased to life in prison when further crimes that he committed in Los Angeles came to light. Now 46 years old, the man has spent his sentence incarcerated in Blythe, at the Chuckawalla State Prison.
His parole hearing will be held on April 14th.
