A Chicago police officer was struck by a car recently when doing a traffic stop around 12:30 am on a week night. The officer was outside his patrol car speaking with an individual when a vehicle hit him and then sped away from the scene without stopping. Additional police and emergency rescue responded to the accident site and the officer was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. He was treated for non-life threatening injuries and later released. Authorities searched for the vehicle involved in the hit and run but were unable to locate it. Later that day, a 33-year-old woman, M.P., came into a police station and turned herself in. She was taken into custody and charged with multiple offenses and traffic infractions. Get the help of a criminal defense lawyer immediately if you have been charged with a crime.
M.P. attended a hearing shortly after turning herself in and was formerly charged with two felonies as well a handful of citations in connection to the accident. She faces felony leaving the scene of an accident that caused injury, felony failure to report an accident and cited for driving without a valid driver's license, driving without vehicle insurance, failure to reduce speed, damaging public property, striking a pedestrian in the roadway and failure to render aid. M.P. is currently being held in jail on $75,000 bond and will be facing further court action later this month.
