Additional Firearm Restrictions in Chicago
- All firearms in Chicago must be registered with the police department.
- Only one firearm may be bought per month by an individual.
- When transporting a firearm, it must be unloaded, broken down, and inaccessible to the driver and passengers in the vehicle.
- It is illegal to sell firearms within the city of Chicago.
- In Illinois, it is illegal to an individual who is not a resident of Illinois, to an individual who does not possess a Firearms Owner's Identification Card (FOID), or to an individual who has a liquor license.
- A firearms dealer may not be deliver a purchased firearm to the individual within 72 hours of the purchase.
Other Weapons Offenses
- It is illegal for an individual to possess certain prohibited weapons, including but not limited to: bludgeons, "knuckles," switchblade knives, throwing stars, black-jacks, Molotov cocktails, sand-clubs, ballistic knives, sand-bags, tear gas projector, explosives, and grenades.
- If an individual has criminal intent, certain items become weapons and are thus prohibited. Weapons which may not be carried with criminal intent include but are not limited to: daggers, razors, stilettos, broken bottles, glass, dirks, billies, stun guns, tasers, or similar instruments.
