A 50-year-old Miami woman has been charged recently in connection to allegations of having stolen nearly $3,500 from a local farmers' market organization. The woman, R.W., was a volunteer with the organization and had been allegedly using funds for personal use that were supposed to go toward various expenses related to holding the farmers' market. The suspected theft was discovered when a review of bank records revealed a series of account expenditures since October of last year that did not match up. R.W. was then suspected of misleading other organization members into thinking that checks were being cashed in order to pay for services by local businesses. She was let go from her volunteer position and the farmer's market organization is pursuing legal action. R.W. will be arraigned at the Miami County Municipal Court. Charged with a theft crime? About Miami Theft Crime Charges
An alleged theft crime can be charged as a misdemeanor or felony depending on a variety of circumstances. Someone suspected of stealing property valued at $300 or less may be charged with petit (petty) theft which is a misdemeanor. When the value of the property that has been shoplifted or otherwise obtained illegally is over $300 then that individual may be charged with felony grand theft. Other circumstances surrounding an alleged theft crime can make the charges and accompanying penalties much more severe. If a theft involved the use of a weapon, physical violence or threats of physical harm then very serious felony charges may be assessed which can result in years in prison, thousands in fines and other penalties.
