Though the details of a young girl's murder have been sealed in an affidavit by a judge, more information has come to light from the deceased girl's alleged best friend and other friends, as reported by the Huffington Post.
According to T.H., 16, her best friend N.C., 15, had planned to meet K.D. the same weekend that she disappeared.
N.C.'s body was discovered in a wooded area near Old Town several miles from where she lived.
K.D., 20, was charged on May 21, 2013 for her murder. On the following day he appeared in court.
Steve Smith, K.D.'s attorney, requested that the state police affidavit be impounded by Justice William Anderson as the attorney was concerned with pretrial publicity.
Friends of N.C.'s appeared in court wearing neon yellow shirts as that was N.C.'s favorite color. Friend J.B., 20, commented that K.D. "seemed really nice in the beginning… I just never thought he would do something like this. It sickens me." Another friend, A.P., said that she had spoken to N.C. the day before she went missing, May 11, and commented "She said, 'I'll see you at school.'"
K.D., reporting to jail soon after N.C.'s disappearance to begin a sentence for fleeing police at 100 mph on a motorcycle, was interviewed by authorities at the time. According to Deputy District Attorney General William Stokes, K.D. is the only person they believe to be responsible for N.C.'s murder.
According to N.C.'s friends the two were acquainted but no one knows how well they knew each other and to what extent. Her family members believe that she had left the home that day to rendezvous with someone she had met on Facebook.
Friends said that they knew of a fictitious Facebook account that had been created – with the sole purpose of connecting to teens in the area. J.B. said, "I'm going home to just delete a bunch of people off there. I don't know who to trust. It's hard to trust people on those networks."
T.H., 16, N.C.'s supposed best friend and school mate said that she knew the two were to meet the day before K.D. was to report in for jail on the fleeing charge – and the same weekend N.C. disappeared.
T.H. said that she believed that N.C. and K.D. got along fine and said that she was surprised that he was charged for her murder.
The search for N.C. involved law enforcement, aircraft, dogs and hundreds of civilians that volunteered their time and efforts. After days without a sign of her a warden and his dog located a body believed to be hers.
The autopsy reports are pending, however, law enforcement is confident that she was killed the same day she disappeared.
K.D. will most likely remain in jail without bail pending his trial.
