Woman Steals $2.15 Million from Her Native Country

Now wanted in two countries, Mei-Rung Lin has a long legal road ahead of her. The Taiwanese national is wanted in her own country for her involvement in a multi-million dollar embezzlement plan. She will be deported to Taipei on Wednesday, according to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency.

The ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Fugitive Operations Team took Lin into custody at her home in Arcadia for administrative immigration violations. Although Lori K. Haley, a Public Affairs Officer at ICE, said that the agency didn't know how long Lin had been living in her current location, they did know that she entered the US about ten years ago.

She was named in a warrant issued in 2000 by the Taiwanese national government for stealing $2.15 million from a company in her country. Lin has been on "red notice" for over ten years that was given by the International Crime Police Organization (INTERPOL). Although Lin had been ordered to deport in 2008, she appealed the decision. Her attempt was unsuccessful, however, as the Board of Immigration Appeals upheld the initial decision, prompting her deportation status in 2010.
