While in the midst of a divorce, a woman has been accused of attempting to hire an undercover police officer to kill her husband, and handing her wedding ring over as down payment for the crime with a promise of more money to come, as reported by The Eagle on December 19.
N.M.G., 53, was charged with solicitation to commit capital murder – a first-degree felony that can warrant life imprisonment and up to $10,000 in fines – in a foiled plot to have her estranged husband, J.R.G., killed off.
N.M.G.'s bail amount is $75,000.
N.M.G. is also scheduled to be in the 361st District Court, before Judge Steve Smith, who will be hearing testimony on her pending divorce. Judge Smith will be deciding who will be gaining the possession of the couple's home and vehicle.
The divorce itself is still pending.
Phil Banks, J.G.'s divorce attorney, said that his client has requested that he file for a restraining order against N.M.G. Within five days of his wife's arrest, J.G. was concerned that her bail may be lessened or that she might be able to post the bail amount. Banks said, "Obviously, it's a situation where he feels like he needs additional security."
In a strange twist of fate, on social media websites N.M.G. has described herself as a crime novelist.
Arrest records state that N.M.G. agreed to pay $60,000 – from her husband's life insurance policy once she cashes it in – to an undercover Brazos County Sheriff's Department investigator in exchange for killing J.G.
The investigator reported that N.M.G. asked that her former husband not suffer during the incident and that it should look like an accident.
Police have yet to release what let them to find out that J.G. intended to hire a hit man.
The couple hadn't lived together as husband and wife for approximately one year when J.G. filed for divorce on October 17. He had cited the reason for the divorce was due to a "discord or conflict of personalities" that had grown during their eight-yearlong union.
J.G. failed to respond to requests made by reporters for his comments on the murder plot.
The day before N.M.G. allegedly hired the hit man she filed a counter petition – asking the judge for a temporary restraining order, the home the two owned, their vehicle and to change her name to N.J.M.
N.M.G. stated that she had learned that J.G. had been hiding money from her, and, sending money to different women that he had relations with. She further attested that she required brain surgery but J.G. had removed her from his insurance and she couldn't afford to pay for it alone.
Banks, who has also worked as a criminal defense attorney, added, "It's an interesting case – it doesn't happen that often. Fortunately, she went to somebody who didn't want to get him killed. It could have easily gone the other way."
