In Connecticut, police recently arrests two people in connection with a suspected
prostitution scandal. The two suspects arrested had responded to an "erotic services" advertisement that had been placed on the popular internet site, Craigslist.com.
56 year old Gary Maharne and 30 year old Sonya Mowatt were charged with prostitution and then released without having to pay bail. However, each offender is scheduled to appear in Superior Court on November 26th in Manchester.
Law enforcement reports that they were able to charge Maharne and Mowatt by using under cover officers. The under cover officers are the people who approached both suspects and were able to catch them offering their services as prostitutes online.
At this time, police from neighboring cities are continually searching Craigslist.com fro similar advertisements. Hey have been able to find many leads for people who are offering sex services. Due to recent police involvement, Craigslist has agreed to tighten the standards on ads that are placed within the "erotic services" section. Additionally, the website will now require people posting ads to provide a working telephone number and also agreement to pay a credit card fee. Both items will be verified by Craigslist before people will be allowed to place their ad.
