South Dakota Woman Found Guilty for Prescription Drug Crimes

Recently, in Sturgis, South Dakota, a woman was found guilty after she admitted to providing her teenage son with a prescription drug.  The son of the woman is scheduled for sentencing in court next week.

According to reports, 37 year old Tara Fairbanks pled guilty to distributing a controlled substance to a minor.  The criminal offense carries a mandatory minimum of 5 years jail time and a maximum of 25 years.

The mother was arrested on September 6th after a party was held.  It is alleged that during the party, juveniles were using the prescription drugs that she had given to her son.  It is also reported that the minors were drinking and taking cough medicine.  Shortly after the incident, several of the juveniles at the party were taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

At the time of her arrest, Fairbanks was already on probation for a prior offense in which she illegally obtained prescription drugs.
