North Dakota Man Sentenced With 10 Years for Sex Crimes Against Children

Yesterday, 40 year old Jeffrey Allen Kjos was sentenced with 10 years jail time in the North Dakota Department of Corrections.  Kjos received sentencing after pleading guilty to committing sexually related acts with children.

In July of 2008, Kjos pled guilty to five separate sex crime charges.  However, yesterday Josh Rustad, Kjos's attorney motioned to withdraw the previous guilty plea and to enter a new plea at a later date.

During the hearing, Kjos was noted to have said, "I don't want to go to jail for something I didn't do."  Kjos was escorted to jail immediately after the hearing concluded.

Kjos faced several felony charges.  Three of his criminal charges were for gross sexual imposition, one charge was for abuse or neglect of a child, and the last charge was for continuous sexual abuse of a child.  It is reported that the victims of the sex crimes committed by Kjos were two young females.

Kjos was sentenced to 10 years in prison for one of the five charges and was also ordered to pay court fees.  As part of his sentencing, Kjos must complete a sex offender program while serving his 10 years in state prison.  If he is able to successfully complete the program, his other four criminal charges will be dropped.  However, if he is unable to finish the program, he will receive the maximum sentences for each of his other four sex crime charges.

Kjos must also pay a $33,500 fine and will be placed on probation for 10 years following his jail sentence.  He is forbidden from having any form of contact with the victims involved.
