A Minnesota Teen Accused of Bias Crime

According to PostBulletin.com, a Minnesota teen is currently facing charges for assaulting a man on the basis of the man's race.

17 year old Anthony Shieha Ou has been charged by the Olmsted District Juvenile Court with a gross misdemeanor for fourth degree assault that was motivated by bias.  Ou pled "not guilty" to the criminal charges he is facing and his trial has been set for December 1st.

In July of this year, his older brother, Alexander Edward Ou (20) was charged with the same crime.  His case is still open, but an evidentiary hearing is expected to take place on November 12th.

Sources report that the brothers assaulted a 48 year old man on June 6th.  After the assault, the man called authorities and told them that while he was to his house after being dropped off from work, he was assaulted.  The assault allegedly took place only a few doors from the man's residence.

The man reported that four males appeared near him outside and shouted out a racial slur while he was walking.   They four males then came up to him and began to hit him and eventually knocked him down.  After they attacked him, the males went into their home and left the victim.  That is when the victim phoned 911 and 7 to 10 more suspects came outside with sticks and proceeded to hit the victim.

The victim was able to identify the 2 brothers as his assailants and he said that they had made a racial slur about him, knocked him hard to the ground and then punched him.

Reports filed by the defendants said that the brothers were concerned that the victim was about to do something to their home, which is why they decided to attack him.
