In Memphis, Tennessee, police are currently investigating a shooting that took place at the East Memphis shopping center yesterday evening. The shooting resulted in the death of a local woman.
At 6:45 PM, the Memphis Police Department received a call from a person at the shopping center. When police arrived at the scene, they found a victim who had been shot once. Police arranged for the woman to be transported to Regional Medical, where she remained in critical condition until she died.
The victim was later identified as 26 year old April Gibbs.
At this time, Memphis investigators are questioning three witnesses. One is a male acquaintance who was with the victim at the time of the shooting. Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim may have been sitting inside a parked car outside of a music store at the shopping center when she was shot. Police are examining the scene and the black Chevrolet Impala the victim was in for further evidence.
According to Major Joe Scott, the investigation and evidence gathered from the scene indicate that the shooting was tied to a drug deal that may have gone bad.
The person(s) that is responsible for the shooting is not yet in police custody.
