A professional boxer was recently given a break in the domestic violence charges against him. The man's charges were reduced after a successful negotiation by his attorney. He recently pleaded guilty to a battery charge and no contest to two harassment charges. The case began when his ex-girlfriend claimed he attacked her and threatened the two children the former couple has together. The penalties for these charges can be severe and greatly impact your life. Speak with a Los Angeles domestic violence lawyer right away if you have been charged or arrested and need skilled defense.
The incident that landed the boxer in police custody occurred over a year ago. It was alleged that he attacked his girlfriend at the time when he discovered that she began a relationship with someone else. He initially faced felony charges for domestic violence but accepted a plea bargain for lesser charges. The misdemeanor harassment and battery domestic violence charges he has agreed to can result in $3,000 in fines and up to 18 months in jail. In the end, he was fined $2,500 and must serve 90 days in jail. The judge in the case took into account the boxer's contractual obligations and the economic value of those obligations and postponed when he will have to serve his jail sentence to later this year.
