Plain-Clothes Officer Discovers Drugs on Man
A recent law enforcement operation led to the capture of a man wanted for multiple outstanding charges after an extended foot chase.
The incident came hot on the heels of a series of large-scale brawls on Carson Beach over Memorial Day weekend, involving as many as 1,000 youths. The mass fighting prompted increased police presence on the beach in an effort to return the area to normalcy.
According to a report filed by law enforcement regarding the incident, a State Police officer patrolling the beach in plainclothes approached the suspect on Saturday evening at approximately 7:40 PM. The defendant came to the undercover policeman's attention due to his allegedly suspicious behavior. Upon nearing the suspect, the officer also noticed that he was carrying an open container of beer.
Suspect Flees From Law Enforcement In Extended Foot Chase
After approaching the man and identifying himself, the officer recalled in his report, the alleged offender acted nervous and refused to comply with a request to give his name. Shortly thereafter the policeman discovered what appeared to be several bags of heroin on the suspect's person, inciting him to flee the scene.
The man led his pursuer away from the beach, running through Moakley Park before finally being apprehended at the bottom of a stairwell in a housing complex by a group of three officers.
State police took the Boston native into custody, charging him with possession of a Class-A narcotic substance with intent to distribute. Upon bringing him in, authorities learned that their suspect was wanted for eight active warrants in Massachusetts and one in Maine, for crimes ranging from aggravated assault to violation of a restraining order.
He is scheduled to appear before the Boston Municipal Court later this month.
