Police arrested a man thought to be the individual who robbed a Denny’s restaurant in West Covina recently. Officers were called to a Denny’s location on Grand Avenue around 12:30 in the afternoon on reports that a robbery had taken place. Witnesses stated that a man entered the restaurant and then went up to the cash register. The man allegedly pulled out a knife and demanded cash. The cashier handed over the money (amount unspecified) and then the man fled the scene. A witness to the robbery reportedly followed the individual accused of robbing the diner and saw him go onto the property of a nearby motel. Police officers established a perimeter around the motel and began searching the area. Officers say they spotted the suspect at the motel’s pool as he was allegedly trying to blend in with a crowd at poolside. He was taken into custody without further incident.
About Armed Robbery Charges
Armed robbery is considered a serious theft crime so the penalties are severe if a conviction is obtained. Consult with a criminal defense lawyer right away if you are arrested to ensure your rights and liberty are protected. Robbery is a felony offense due to the fact that it involves the use of force, threats of bodily injury or use of a weapon. When a weapon is allegedly involved (as opposed to just the threat of physical force without the presence of a weapon) or if injuries are inflicted to a victim then the penalties can be significantly enhanced to include increased imprisonment or fines. Second degree robbery charges are punishable by up to five years in prison. Carjacking, robbery occurring in an inhabited dwelling, robbery on or near public transportation or involving ATM customers is a first degree offense punishable by up to nine years imprisonment. Robbery is in the category of violent crimes and can count as a Three Strikes offense so it is crucial that you have strong defense representation on your side!
