Two people, reported to be a boyfriend-girlfriend couple, were being sought by police after a recent car theft and other incidents. Police in Carpentaria allegedly saw the two suspects driving in a vehicle that had been reported stolen in Santa Paula. The officers attempted a traffic stop but the vehicle with the two occupants refused to pull over and a chase ensued. Police pursued the car briefly before it came to a stop in a residential neighborhood and the two people in the car fled. The suspects were able to elude police and were not taken into custody. The next morning, Ventura police officers were responding to a domestic dispute call when they said they recognized the male suspect from the car chase. 22-year-old J.R. was observed leaving the residence where the dispute allegedly occurred (he was not involved in the dispute) but when officers tried to speak with him he attempted to run away. Officers chased him on foot and soon overtook him and put him under arrest. Authorities were still trying to find J.R.'s girlfriend, T.Y., who was suspected to have been the passenger in the stolen car when the chase had occurred. The 28-year-old woman was located the following day and arrested after a traffic stop. T.Y. was found to have several outstanding warrants and was being held without bail in the Ventura County jail. J.R. was charged with vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, driving with a suspended license, felony evading arrest and resisting arrest. He is being held at the Santa Barbara County jail on $25,000 bail.
