Investigators with the Austin Police Department began surveillance on a home after receiving what was described as "credible information" from an unnamed source. The information stated that L.C., 34, would be facilitating a large drug deal between a buyer and a methamphetamine seller. Officers conducted surveillance on a home where two men lived who were allegedly involved in drug sales. The police subsequently obtained a search warrant for the home and carried it out. Another search warrant was obtained and carried out at another home belonging to a 31-year-old man suspected of being involved in the deal. Officers arrested two men at the first home and found drugs and cash at the location. Over eight ounces of cocaine, 20 pounds of methamphetamine and about $30,000 cash were seized. Firearms were seized at the second home and police arrested the 31-year-old man. L.C. was taken into custody on suspicion of drug trafficking and all four suspects have been charged with various federal drug distribution offenses. Criminal prosecutors will aggressively pursue a conviction in drug cases. Because of Texas' proximity to Mexico state, local and federal authorities are given substantial resources to put a stop to drug trafficking and distribution into the U.S. Penalties are severe for these crimes and can include life in prison and hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines depending on the circumstances of the alleged offense.
