A 27-year-old Santa Ana man faces arraignment this week for one felony charge and two misdemeanor charges relating to an incident where a pedestrian was killed. Prosecutors with the Orange County District Attorney's Office argue that the suspect struck a 75-year-old man that was lawfully crossing the street though the street was not marked with a crosswalk. The fatal accident happened around 6:30 in the morning when the man was hit by a late model luxury sedan heading south. The impact caused the man to hit the hood and windshield of the car. The driver left the location of the accident. Emergency responders arrived and the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspected driver, V.A., was arrested two days after the accident. V.A. was taken into custody and charged with felony hit and run causing death and misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence. He is also being charged with driving on a suspended license. His driver's license was suspended two years ago after a drunk driving conviction. If found guilty of the charges against him, V.A. could receive harsh sentencing including years of imprisonment and thousands in fines followed by probation and lengthy community service commitments. Make sure you are not unfairly accused and charged for a crime; a skilled defense attorney may be able to get the charges you are facing dismissed or reduced.
