An Anaheim man was arrested by Irvine police in connection with selling illegal prescription drugs. The Irvine police conducted a three-month investigation into the suspect's activities before arresting him in late March of this year. He was busted after police witnessed the man engaging in an illegal drug sale. He has been charged with sales and transportation of a controlled substance as well as a weapons violation. In a search of the man's home and vehicle, investigators found approximately 150 oxycodone pills along with weapons which included handguns and an altered assault rifle. The man is being held on $25,000 bail.
The California Health & Safety Code 11350 makes it illegal to possess certain controlled substances, such as oxycodone, without a valid and authorized prescription. Violations of this law are generally charged as felonies, which may be punishable by a state prison sentence of up to 16 months, or two or three years. Violation of the California Health & Safety Code 11351 is even more serious, which is possession of a controlled substance with the intent to sell. A conviction of this felony will result in probation with up to a year in a county jail or a prison sentence of two, three, or four years. Actual sales transactions of controlled substances are a violation of California Health & Safety Code 11352, as in the case above. This is the most serious of these three crimes. This is also charged as a felony and may result in a prison sentence of three, four, or five years in a state prison.
