Immigration crimes are common in Pennsylvania and in many other areas around the country, but can carry heavy penalties. If you or someone you know has been charged with an immigration crime, you need to consult an experienced
criminal defense attorney who can help you protect your rights.
Types of Immigration Crimes
There are numerous types of immigration crimes that one can be charged with, a few of these are as follows:
- Harboring illegal aliens
- Alien smuggling
- Hiring illegal aliens knowingly
- Prostitution (importing, harboring or employing aliens for prostitution)
- Marriage fraud
- Passport fraud
- Evading or fleeing a checkpoint
There are many other immigration crimes not mentioned here and due to all the focused attention on the strict immigration laws recently passed and being enforced in Arizona, stricter laws are now being proposed for the state of Pennsylvania as well. State representative Daryl Metcalfe recently stated that under his recently proposed law which is modeled after the recently enacted Arizona immigration law, if you happen to be an undocumented immigrant, you have two choices: you can either leave the state or go to jail and through enforcement, illegal aliens can be sent back to their homeland. Under this new bill, illegal immigrants who don't have proper documentation, are involved in smuggling immigrants, or who are trying to apply for work would all be deemed guilty of a crime.
